The Celina Independent School District has selected a new athletic director to succeed Bill Elliott, who stepped down in January. His departure occurred while a criminal investigation was underway regarding his son, Caleb Elliott.
The district is also navigating personnel changes at Moore Middle School, where the principal resigned one day after the district appeared to clear her of wrongdoing following the arrest of a coach.
Community tension remains high following the release of a third-party report last week. The document detailed the extent of Bill Elliott’s authority in hiring his son, who is a former middle school coach accused of child exploitation. The report was heavily redacted before its release to the public.
During a board meeting held Tuesday night, parents and residents addressed the board members. Speakers called for the resignation of the superintendent and several council members. These demands followed the publication of the third-party report on Friday, which outlined the hiring practices and control exercised by the former athletic director.
Legal representatives for victims in the associated lawsuit also commented on the findings. The lawyer stated he was surprised by the level of control Bill Elliott held over personnel decisions. The report confirmed that the former AD had significant influence in the hiring of his son.
