The Dallas Cowboys have officially signed veteran linebacker Von Miller to a one-year contract, a move that aims to bolster their defense ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Miller, who has been eyeing the Cowboys throughout the offseason, joins a revamped defensive unit that features approximately six new starters and a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker.
Miller, who recorded nine sacks in the previous season with the Washington Commanders, brings a wealth of experience, having played 14 seasons in the NFL. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Miller's contributions, stating that he possesses a sharp football intellect and still demonstrates quickness on the field.
Schottenheimer noted that while Miller may not participate in every defensive play, his presence will significantly enhance the team's performance.
In the 2025 season, Miller played in 17 games for the Commanders, starting only three, and participated in 37 percent of the team's defensive snaps. It is anticipated that his role with the Cowboys will be similar, with him likely coming in during critical situations, such as third downs and passing plays, while younger players like Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku handle early downs.
Miller's impressive career includes being selected second overall in the 2011 NFL Draft and earning accolades such as the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and Super Bowl MVP. With 138.5 career sacks, he holds the record for the most sacks among active players and is tied for 13th on the all-time list with former Cowboy DeMarcus Ware.
