The Houston Texans have made significant roster additions during training camp, including former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney and Mario Edwards to bolster their defensive line. However, the team has not made substantial changes to their wide receiver group, opting instead to rely on younger players already on the roster.
As the regular season approaches, the Texans' chances of signing a notable wide receiver appear to be decreasing. Several top free-agent wideouts, including Deebo Samuel, Stefon Diggs, and Keenan Allen, have recently signed with other teams, leaving the Texans with limited options. Tyreek Hill remains available, but concerns about his recovery from a torn ACL make a potential signing unlikely.
Other available receivers, such as Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Lockett, and DeAndre Hopkins, may not significantly improve the Texans' current depth chart. The team's existing receivers, including Nico Collins, Jayden Higgins, and Xavier Hutchinson, are expected to play key roles this season.
While the Texans have over $20 million in cap space, they seem confident in their current wide receiver lineup and may choose to allocate resources elsewhere. The front office believes that the existing talent can maintain an above-average offense without further investment in veteran receivers.
