Prosper's Parks & Recreation Department will mark Arbor Day on Friday, Nov. 6, with an hour of tree plantings and live demonstrations at Fire Station 2.

The free event runs from 5 to 6 p.m. at the station, 1140 S. Teel Parkway. The town describes it as hands-on and invites residents to bring their questions, with staff offering advice on caring for and maintaining trees.

Part of a yearly requirement

Holding an annual Arbor Day observance is one of the four standards the Arbor Day Foundation sets for its Tree City USA program, according to the town's May announcement. The others are a tree board or department, a community tree ordinance and spending of at least $2 per resident on urban forestry.

Prosper has carried the Tree City USA designation every year since 2020, and in May the town said it had also received the foundation's Growth Award, which recognizes advanced tree care, forestry management and community engagement. Prosper has been a Certified Texas Scenic City since 2015.

"As our town matures, we are intentionally protecting and cultivating the natural beauty that makes Prosper feel like home," Mayor David Bristol said in the May release.

The town has described its tree canopy as infrastructure that cools neighborhoods in summer, slows stormwater runoff and cleans the air.

Questions about Friday's event can go to Parks & Recreation at 972-569-1160.
