Ashton Gosselin, a senior quarterback for Walnut Grove High School in Prosper, has been selected as Star Local Media’s Athlete of the Week. The recognition follows his standout play during Friday’s 63-35 win against McKinney, which secured the Wildcats’ first district victory since joining Class 6A.

In just his fourth career varsity start, Gosselin completed 29 of 33 pass attempts for 383 yards and four touchdowns. He also contributed on the ground with 66 rushing yards and an additional score. His efficiency helped lead the team to a decisive rout of their opponents.

Gosselin credited the offensive unit’s success to strong execution and protection up front. He noted that his receivers made critical plays and that the team adhered strictly to its game plan. Personally, he emphasized trusting his reads and making quick decisions on whether to pass or run.

The senior acknowledged the steep learning curve involved in transitioning from private school football to the 6A level. He identified the increased speed and physicality of opposing defenses as the primary challenge. To adapt, Gosselin focused on being decisive and releasing the ball promptly rather than hesitating.

He pointed to offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Carson Meger for significant influence on his development. Meger helped Gosselin break down the mental aspects of the position and establish a weekly checklist for improvement. Personal trainer Ronnie Braxton also played a key role, focusing on speed, strength, and pocket awareness through training with college and professional athletes.

Outside of football, Gosselin enjoys spending time with family and friends. He has a particular passion for golf, which he plays with his father, and spends downtime analyzing college and NFL film to understand how strategies translate across levels.
